I am originally from Green Bay and did my undergrad at Valparaiso University in Chemistry and Biology where I got the chance to take a class in Greece, do an internship for NASA and fall in love. It was all very exciting! In 2013, I enrolled at the University of Wisconsin and after a few months transferred into the Graham Lab where I am working on a way to recover and convert methane to a usable fuel source. Methane is a very potent greenhouse gas and is difficult to convert to a liquid fuel. I am working to engineer a system that optimizes the consumption of methane gas by bacterial symbionts in an algal host to create a biofuel feedstock. When I am not in the lab, I’m reading and dreaming about traveling back to the Mediterranean. I’m a wicked baker, a so-so cook and I like to knit, quilt and play the violin in my spare time.
